Can you imagine a point in time where you're the best in your industry? Imagine being the best entrepreneur, the best photographer in the world, or even the best teacher to ever step foot on this earth. We all want to be the best at what we do, but unfortunately, some of us wake up everyday struggling to move forward. We can't seem to figure out how to push forward and make an impact in the space that we're in. We see our friends and other people in the industry making leaps and bounds, but we feel stuck.
Maybe that's you. Maybe you've tried just about everything and it seems like there's no way you're going to be successful. Well, I have good and bad news for you. 1. It is possible! You can dominate your space. 2. It's going to be a lot harder than you think and it's going to require more effort than you think.
Here are three ways you can dominate your space and be the best at what you do:
1. Work 10X Harder Than Your Competition
Although it may feel like you are operating at 10X levels, more than likely, you're not. I'm going to be honest, for awhile I thought I was working harder than I actually was. I was spending a lot of time working, but most of the time, the work I was doing wasn't pushing me forward and helping me in my industry. Once you can learn to prioritize the type of work you do and then take it head on with massive action, that's when you and others will start seeing progress.
To be best in your industry, you have to literally be obsessed with what you're doing - living it out day-by-day. You can't be half in and half out - no decisiveness. Whenever I graduated high school, I diagnosed myself with "shiny-object syndrome". I would see something that looked so cool and I thought it would make me a bunch of money, but I never bought into those things. I never decided to commit and conquer the industry! Instead, I jumped around from idea to idea and never pushed them further than a month or two.
I'm not saying that doing multiple things at once is bad. Just commit to something you love and share your passion with others. Decide to commit in succeeding in one area, then work 10X harder to create a name for yourself. To be the best you can be and to be better than anyone in your space, you must do more. Simple as that. Commit and conquer.
If you struggle with working 10X harder, read this book - it's one of my favorites.
2. Get More Attention Than Your Competition
One of the best words of advice I think I've ever heard when it comes to business is this:
Money follows attention. - Grant Cardone
If you want to be the best in your industry or your space, you need to get all the attention you can get. You and your team should be obsessed about getting your product or brand in front of as many people as possible.
Every year, millions of people sit around a TV to watch one of football's biggest events? Yep, you thought it. The Super Bowl! Did you know that the average Super Bowl commercial spot averages $5 million for a 30-second slot? That's crazy. You may be wondering, "Why in the world would they spend $5 million dollars on a 30-second video, couldn't they spend that money on something else?" Because these businesses understand that money follows attention and whoever is getting the most attention is getting the most checks in the mail.
How are you and your team getting in front of your audience? Are you using Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Meet-Ups? If not, I would get on the train and start grabbing people's attention. You have millions of potential customers at the palm of your hands, literally, so how are you going to leverage today's technology to get in front of people.
Lastly, it's one thing to get in front of people, but it's another thing to add value to their lives and show them they should trust you. It's not all about blasting them with your products and trying to sell them, but more about building relationships and giving them more and more everyday. Find ways to do social meetups, give away free ebooks on your product or service, do live Q&A's, engage with your followers/friends. Once you get in front of somebody and then you show them that you are trust-worthy and want to help them in some way, that's when you'll start to win.
Money follows attention.
3. Don't Be Afraid
Sometimes it can be very daunting to step out and go full-force. There are so many unknowns. What will people think? Will this actually work? Will I be able to make enough money to support my family? Is this worth my time? We may not know the answers to these questions (and we may never know), but you can't let analysis-paralysis set in. You can't focus on the negative. To be the best at what you do, you have to believe it yourself.
The moment you let fear take over is the moment when your dreams die and your worst-nightmares come into fruition. Instead of wondering if it will work, make it work. Push forward and don't look back. Need some positivity? Listen to podcast, find an accountability partner, do something! Don't let fear hold you back from being the best. You are the best and the world deserves to know it.
