It's On The Market | My First Fix & Flip

Well, the day is finally here. After MANY hours of learning and working on this "tiny" flip, I can finally say that the house is on the market for sale!
This was a major learning experience for myself. I don't know about you, but I had NO general knowledge of construction growing up and I didn't have any until the day I bought this house. I thought, "Ah! I can do it. With a little YouTube and help from my friends, I can do this - I mean how hard can it be?" Well, it was a lot harder than I thought!
This house was just older and outdated when we purchased it - nothing terrible, but just needed a little facelift. So, we set out on our journey to paint some walls, lay some flooring, and try to get this place to a more updated vibe. Check out these before pictures!
The first move we made was to pull up all of the old flooring and countertops. I never knew how hard it was to tear up FIVE LAYERS OF FLOORING! Yes, you heard that right, five! They had just stacked the flooring right over each other for years and it made it so difficult to remove in some places.
Once that business was done, we decided to take to the walls and go with a light grey color (I kinda like the grey trend that's in). I never realized how many shades of grey there actually were. There's like 50 shades (HAHA - Get it?). Anyway, I found out real quick how much I hate painting. Some people say it's relaxing, but not when you have to paint an entire house. Not one bit is it relaxing to me. I'd rather be sitting on the beach to relax!

My favorite part of the project was painting the brick fireplace. Some people like it and some don't, but I think it's what highlights the house. I was kinda skeptical to do it at first because there was really no point of return, but I did it and I think it's awesome!

We also did some minor renovations to the kitchens and bathrooms to make them more modern - new countertops, tile, backsplash, etc. Stuff that you women are fond of! I can say, you have to have a good eye when it comes to this stuff. I never realized how important interior design is until this project. There's a lot of thought that goes into these flips and I never realized that before.
Oh, and we didn't paint the outside brick :( With fall/winter arriving and us not having the time or budget to do so, we decided to leave it be.
Through this whole project, I've learned a few things:
1. I think I would rather pay someone to renovate the houses for me. Let me just cast the vision (dream big) and let them carry out the job. Why would I do that? Well, it took me forever to do what they could have probably done in half the time AND some of that stuff is just straight boring - thank you Jesus for all of our hard-working construction peeps!
2. Be prepared for setbacks. This project was a big learning process. Not only did we run into some time issues, but financial issues were also relevant on this project. Just be prepared to be mentally tough - you never know what is going to be thrown at you and when. That goes for every area in life.
I could go on and on about all I've learned through my first fix and flip, but I'll touch on some more things in a week or so. Let me know what you think in the comments below! I'll also be doing a vlog about the house sometime soon.
Thanks so much for supporting Taylor and I in our real estate journey. I can't wait to help you see the ins-and-outs of it all in the future and maybe teach you one day on how you can do this yourself!
